While much is known about the paintings and graphic art of European modern art representatives Marc Chagall (1887\u20131985), Pablo Picasso (1881\u20131973) and Max Ernst (1891\u20131976), and somewhat less about the ceramic works occasionally featured in their exhibitions, the tapestries based on these artists\u2019 works have hardly been on show. This catalogue presents the ceramic works of Chagall and Picasso, as well as woven works by tapestry master weaver Yvette Cauquil-Prince (1928\u20132005), based on Chagall\u2019s, Picasso\u2019s and Ernst\u2019s sketches.<\/p>\n
The catalogue reveals the colourful and multifaceted process of cooperation between these creators, the results of which encompass themes from the Bible, war and peace, Chagall\u2019s native shtetl, the circus and the corrida. Illustrated with historic images of Cauquil-Prince\u2019s tapestry creation process, the catalogue also features photographs of the Madoura ceramic workshop in Vallauris<\/em>, France where Chagall and Picasso would meet. There are also more than 30 images of their ceramic and tapestry works.
