\"\"<\/a><\/strong>The exhibition invites you to look in a new way at the folk art collection of the Lithuanian National Museum of Art. Artists \u017dilvinas Landzbergas and Marija Rep\u0161yt\u0117, curators of the exhibition create a dialogue between contemporary artworks and those within the museum’s collection, withdrawn from their contextual use as household items or folk artists’ works. Some of the contemporary art and design works are created specially for this exhibition, in the gallery they meet with artefacts living in the museum depository and invites to a journey, which creates new meanings and experiences.<\/p>\n

\u00a0In his sculpture \u2018Timemaker\u2019, folk artist Stanislovas Riauba portrays a man sitting and holding his hands in front of himself. Between his hands is a space, as if he is holding something, but there is nothing there. Perhaps we cannot see what is there? Just time, space stands out with\u00a0 \u201cdiscoveries\u201d; witty everyday life reflecting tiny sculptures created by self-taught artists, exciting colour combinations of textile pieces, wooden glasses, sincere handicraft and accurate ideas.<\/p>\n

\u00a0The past time of the depository, sleeping objects between the hands of Timemaker. In this exhibition they appear in one space with objects, which were created by designers \u2013 everyday life elements collectors, by artists who creates an artwork in the household as an adjustable thing and seeking relationship with past, folk art, nature, man and everyday life \u2013\u00a0 contemporary professional artists.<\/p>\n

The space between the timemaker’s hands creates possible scenerios for a future; listening to the whispers of the artifacts’ stories, the viewers can imagine their own narratives. What is hidden and what is visible and obvious? How much time we spend with a thing, watching the metamorphosis of nature, we are in constant progress for the sake of facilitating our own household, but at the same time we are moving away from the things, their materiality and their meanings. And if we are searching for something, maybe, just maybe, that is what is between the hands of the Timemaker \u2013 a man created thing, the capture of a surrounding, or maybe we are searching for a mystery in a yellow mirror or maybe something else, something in a cucumber jar?<\/p>\n
