The predawn of the Lithuanian National Museum of Art collection begins in 1907, when, amid a wave of national romanticism in Vilnius, societies dedicated to nurturing Lithuanian science and culture first emerged. On the initiative of their members, these organisations began collecting artefacts and artworks important to the region<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2019<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">s history and culture. Many of these early acquisitions later entered the national museums<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2019 <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">collections.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Today, the LNMA holds roughly a quarter of a million works of Lithuanian and international art, which are researched, catalogued, and conserved by curators across various departments \u2013 including sculpture, graphic arts, painting, photography, applied arts, folk art, and more. Between 2015 and 2025, more than 22,000 works of art were added to the LNMA\u2019s collection, including 1,791 works acquired through purchase. This surge marks a major shift in both the scale and strategy of the M<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">useum<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2019<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">s acquisition<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">s, fragments of which are on view in the current exhibition.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The past decade has been shaped by evolving cultural policies, shifting economic conditions, as well as revised collection<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2010<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">building strategies, and turnover in M<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">useum<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2019<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">s leadership. While acquisitions remain rooted in national value, there is an equally strong focus on the present moment: historical canons are reconsidered in light of today<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2019<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> political<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> soci<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">o-cultural contexts. Most newly acquired works don<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2019<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">t appear in exhibitions right away \u2013 their true significance often reveals itself over time, the impact of which cannot be assessed in advance.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The exhibition has been arranged as a panoramic, schematic survey of the LNMA<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2019<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">s collections of visual art. Its stark medium-based divisions \u2013 painting, graphic arts, sculpture, and photography (including video) \u2013 point to just a sliver of the \u2018Grand A<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">rchive<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u2019<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">The title evokes momentary states in which echoes of the past merge with forecasts of the future. \u2018Between Dawns\u2019 speaks not only to the interval between two dates, but also to a hopeful uncertainty that has guided the collection over the last decade. After all, no collection is ever truly complete.<\/span><span
