Leidinio i\u0161traukos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Through his multi-faceted work and its intensive promotion, the Litvak born in Kaunas, Neemija Arbitblatas (Arbit Blatas, 1908\u20131999), has earned probably the greatest scale of international recognition and takes a special place in Lithuanian cultural history. A modernism classic, a cosmopolitan and an active participant in the international art scene, he belonged to the post-war generation of artists who nurtured humanist values. His creative individuality was formed by his contact with mid-20th century European cultural traditions and the most distinctive art revival movements of the time. The particularly rich and varied creative legacy Arbit Blatas has left us reflects the period\u2019s difficult and complicated art developments, stylistic transformations and change in values. The artist managed to remain loyal to his optimistic nature despite the trials he faced in his long and tumultuous life, and created a unique and impressive creative world whose separate elements can be harmoniously pieced together into a sustained love for life, leaving us with artistic images testifying to the achievement of fulfilment.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_36187\" style=\"width: 311px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lndm.devmerit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Su-Regina-Reznik-Paryziuje_apie-1974_p36.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36187\" class=\"wp-image-36187\" src=\"https:\/\/lndm.devmerit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Su-Regina-Reznik-Paryziuje_apie-1974_p36.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"301\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-36187\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">With Regina Resnik. Paris, 1974<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This Litvak artist, more so than others of his background, found the philosophical reflections of the 20th-century French anthropologist and aesthetic theoretician Andr\u00e9 Leroi-Gourhan on the domestication of time and space, or their \u201ctaming\u201d, to be very close to his heart. The author likened them to humanisation, relating them to the individual. In this way, abstract time and space took on the human dimensions of time and space. Reaching maturity in independent Lithuania and diving right into Lithuania\u2019s cultural life, as a youth Arbit Blatas had the opportunity to see and experience the artistic life of Germany and Paris from up close. With the outbreak of World War II in 1939, he was forced to flee to the United States where he discovered a new space conducive to creating art, not to mention the numerous like-minded thinkers. Everywhere he went, he felt as if he were among friends. Post-war New York, Paris, C\u00e9ret and Roussillon, Venice, Hamburg, Warsaw and other cities around the world that welcomed the artist\u2019s creative experiments were full of symbols left there by the charismatic Arbit Blatas.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_36185\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lndm.devmerit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Prie-Kauno-choralines-sinagogos_1988_p47.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36185\" class=\"wp-image-36185\" src=\"https:\/\/lndm.devmerit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Prie-Kauno-choralines-sinagogos_1988_p47.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"405\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-36185\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Prie Kauno choralin\u0117s sinagogos. 1988. Gregory Talas<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The artist did not avoid Western cultural trends and participated in important art movements, yet he did not blindly follow or try to keep up with short-lived fashions, never really feeling the need to break through into the front lines of the bohemian avant garde. This was all testimony of a self-confident individual with a strong sense of determination, who had a firm understanding of his goals. Naturally selecting art forms that he held close to his heart, over time a very personal and intimate creative narrative evolved. This is evident from the immensely rich artistic legacy Arbit Blatas has left us with: canvases painted in oils, gouache and pastels, series of lithographic prints, his sculptures, drawings, poster designs, opera stage designs, film scenarios, etc. The artist worked easily and quickly, he was a diligent and determined character.
