\"\"<\/a>At 6 p.m. 19th April, Pranas Dom\u0161aitis Gallery of the LNMA in Klaip\u0117da, invites to the opening of Halfway,<\/i> an exhibition by Algirdas Bosas. In his solo show the sculptor revisits time as an element fusing current processes and actions that happened in the past.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cFor five decades, Algirdas Bosas, a sculptor and art educator, has been gifting to Klaip\u0117da unique artwork that integrates into environment becoming a natural part of the urban cityscape. Scale, shape, a thoroughly contemplated relationship with the location \u2013 are all important elements for such a seamless integration. The exhibition introduces the viewer into his sketches and sculpture pieces created at the outset of his career \u2013 and showcases his work previously unseen, including some most recent pieces,\u201d Skaist\u0117 Mar\u010dien\u0117, director of Pranas Dom\u0161aitis Gallery, explains.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Exhibition as a retrospection of one\u2019s art\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With the exhibition <\/span>Halfway <\/span><\/i>the artist looks back on his creative and personal path, considering his choices, indecisions and feelings. The exhibition is composed of sculpture pieces and sketches from <\/span>1975\u20132024, alongside with the photographic records of his monumental sculpture works situated in public spaces.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The chronological overview of five decades of works brings to the fore the consistency of the manner of creative expression. Often, the sculptor uses fragments of human body to associatively link them to material items, thus fusing for the viewer\u2019s perception, the dimensions of past and present. This link is illustrated by the titles, <\/span>Maturity, Halfway, Relationship, Transformation<\/span><\/i> being examples. Midway states of mind immortalized in his monumental work are both personal, familiar and timeless. According to the art researcher Elona Lubyt\u0117, his art <\/span>\u201cis characterized by a Postromantic approach to nature, universal human nature and historical memory.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Scale, shape, and the relationship to the setting are perhaps key elements of Bosas\u2019s work. He articulates his relationship to modernism and postmodernism finding unique ways to connect things past and present. His abstract shapes combine with associative details arriving at powerful solutions of the artist\u2019s idea.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Bosas\u2019s artwork: from Lithuania to South Korea<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Lithuanians are quite familiar with the work by Algirdas Bosas. His sculpture pieces <\/span>Family, Morning, Tower, The Bird of Longing<\/span><\/i>, and a sculpture dedicated to Martynas Ma\u017evydas can be seen in Klaip\u0117da, his work commemorating priest Jurgis Ambraziejus Pabr\u0117\u017ea is situated in Kretinga, Pasvalys has a work dedicated to Petras Avi\u017eonis, a doctor and public figure, while duke Jonu\u0161as Radvila is commemorated in K\u0117dainiai. Bosas\u2019s unique piece <\/span>The Key to Heaven<\/span><\/i> can be seen in South Korea.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

His works, besides prominent individuals, commemorate also events of consequence, for example, a sculpture piece marking the Battle of Durb\u0117 stands in Tel\u0161iai. He has created memorial plaques commemorating writers and political figures, as well as medals, commemorative coins, ice sculpture pieces.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
