\"\"<\/a>Tuesday, 12 May at 4 pm the Palanga Amber Museum opens the exhibition\u00a0Small and Beautiful. The Tiniest\u00a0Work from the Collections of the Lithuanian National Museum of Art.\u00a0<\/i>Featured by\u00a0the exhibition, small scale exhibits\u00a0present their\u00a0amazingly storied\u00a0past, unexpected\u00a0origination\u00a0and\u00a0relevance \u2013 past and present\u00a0\u2013\u00a0condensed into\u00a0a couple of inches.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cVisitors often pass\u00a0by\u00a0the smallest items at exhibitions, without even properly noticing them. This exhibition\u00a0aims\u00a0to\u00a0inspire the appreciation of\u00a0the value\u00a0which\u00a0slow exploration\u00a0can\u00a0bring to museum exhibitions, and to some incredibly rich, simply breathtaking stories which may linger in a walnut-size piece of art,\u201d\u00a0Dr Ar\u016bnas Gel\u016bnas, director general of the LNMA and the curator of this exhibition, urges to discover\u00a0the stories\u00a0of the smallest items of the collection.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Small, yet amazing in their finesse and\u00a0storied past\u00a0\u00a0<\/h6>\n

The smallest items from the collections of the LNMA are installed in seven smart display cabinets which draw you closer to study\u00a0even\u00a0the tiniest\u00a0of\u00a0detail. There you\u00a0can discover\u00a0the origination\u00a0of these works and historical\u00a0context\u00a0in which they\u00a0emerged, the significance they were attached\u00a0to when created,\u00a0and\u00a0their present resonance.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The display spans a jaw-dropping period \u2013 from\u00a0the\u00a0Stone-Age amber pieces crafted\u00a0in\u00a0amber,\u00a0tens\u00a0of\u00a0millions of years old,\u00a0to contemporary jewellery pieces\u00a0of\u00a0exquisite finesse. Visitors will be able to\u00a0scrutinize\u00a0coins from the Grand Duchy of Lithuania\u00a0and the\u00a0gorgeous\u00a0amber artifacts, specimen of 15th-century jewellery\u00a0and\u00a0medals\u00a0from the\u00a0Renaissance\u00a0period,\u00a0the early European porcelain vases, stamps, which played an important part in\u00a0Lithuanian history, \u2013\u00a0and\u00a0many\u00a0other miniature treasures from the collections of the LNMA.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These small-scale artifacts\u00a0reflect\u00a0the virtuosity of skill perfected throughout\u00a0centuries and\u00a0trace\u00a0historical\u00a0trade\u00a0routes,\u00a0the\u00a0political\u00a0trajectory\u00a0of the state,\u00a0and\u00a0the changing\u00a0cultural\u00a0trends. Personal stories of those who created these works also come to life, inviting us to follow in the footprints of many \u2013 masters,\u00a0their\u00a0clients\u00a0and\u00a0owners\u00a0of their work,\u00a0of\u00a0collectors and museum keepers\u00a0\u2013\u00a0who\u00a0brought these artefacts into the present day.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Interactive technology\u00a0to\u00a0facilitate\u00a0a deeper familiarity with the artifacts\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/h6>\n

In order to\u00a0preclude\u00a0the smallness of the exhibits\u00a0from becoming\u00a0an obstacle to see more, the exhibition relies on contemporary technology\u00a0to make visible even\u00a0those aspects\u00a0that\u00a0would\u00a0escape the human eye.\u00a0\u00a03-D scanned images\u00a0facilitate\u00a0a close exploration of the form and texture of the objects on display.\u00a0Here, visitors\u00a0can\u00a0get to art\u00a0on display\u00a0as close as normally,\u00a0in a museum setting,\u00a0would not be\u00a0possible.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The curators of the LNMA collections,\u00a0<\/span>Sigita\u00a0Bagu\u017eait\u0117-Tala\u010dkien\u0117, Gra\u017eina\u00a0Gurnevi\u010di\u016bt\u0117\u00a0and\u00a0Dainius\u00a0Labeckis\u00a0present their\u00a0selected\u00a0exhibits in short video narratives. They\u00a0unpack\u00a0the value and\u00a0the\u00a0context\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0specific\u00a0artworks,\u00a0they found personally drawn to as moving and\u00a0relevant.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The exhibition\u00a0<\/span>Small and Beautiful<\/span><\/i>\u00a0invites to adjust your pace to the\u00a0reflection mode and to consider how attentively we\u00a0tend to\u00a0view the exhibits on the museum walls.\u00a0This time,\u00a0visitors are invited to linger, instead of rushing past, for the details\u00a0and\u00a0the stories, which will reward them with beautiful worlds hidden in the smallest pieces of the LNMA\u2019s collections.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The experience of the exhibition will be expanded by themes tours and education events. The exhibition at the Palanga Amber Museum is on until 13 September.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
