The publisher ‘NoRoutine Books’, in collaboration with the LNMA National Gallery of Art, the Tartu Art Museum (Estonia), and WunderKombinat (Latvia), has released a new publication on the history of photography ‘Silver Girls. Retouched History of Baltic Photography’.
The publication is dedicated to early women photographers working in the Baltic countries from the mid-19th century to the end of World War II, and their creative legacy, which has not received sufficient attention to date. For the first time in book form ‘Silver Girls’ presents a compelling collective portrait of these photographers and highlights their contribution not only to Baltic photography, but also to broader cultural and social history.
The publication summarizes all stages of the ‘Silver Girls’ project’s development – research initiatives and subsequent exhibitions, the largest of which to date was held at the National Gallery of Art in 2025.
The book features essays by the project initiators Indrek Grigor and Šelda Puķīte, both researchers and curators, and a scholarly contribution by their colleague Dr Agnė Narušytė.
