The autumn season at the Lithuanian National Museum of Art: returning masterpieces, new names, and unexpected ways to engage with art

As the days get cooler, the Lithuanian National Museum of Art (LNMA) invites visitors to brighten up the season across its exhibition venues. As fall foliage fades, the LNMA museums and galleries will launch 13 new exhibitions, spanning diverse periods and forms of art. Director General of the LNMA Arūnas Gelūnas receives the Knight’s Cross of the French National Order of the Legion of Honour

On 13th July, Dr Arūnas Gelūnas, Director General of the Lithuanian National Museum of Art, was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the French National Order of the Legion of Honour. Founded in 1802 by the Emperor Napoleon, it is the highest state decoration of the French Republic.   The accolade was presented by the French Ambassador to Lithuania Lucie Stepanyan during the ceremony held at the LNMA National Gallery of Art in Vilnius.   ‘This award from the French Republic is not only a personal recognition for me – I accept it as an acknowledgment of the work of our entire Lithuanian National Museum of Art community, the cultural partnership between Lithuania and France, and the belief that art is a universal language of diplomacy. French culture…

The archive of Jonas Mekas entrusted to the Lithuanian National Museum of Art on  three-year-loan 

A three-year loan contract entrusting the archive of Jonas Mekas (1922 – 2019) to the Lithuanian National Museum of Art (LNMA) was signed on 4 May, at the Radvila Palace Museum of Art of the LNMA. The contract has been signed by the son of Jonas Mekas, Sebastian Mekas, and the Director General of the LNMA, Dr Arūnas Gelūnas.
