As in previous years, in 2024 the activities of the Lithuanian National Museum of Art were multifaceted: the institution continued to support Ukraine’s museums, organised conceptual exhibitions and shows both in Lithuania and abroad, released books and exhibition catalogues of lasting value, offered the public relevant educational activities, acquired objects of value for the museum’s collections and had them digitised, and engaged in the continuing restoration of works of art. These and other meaningful activities are described in Volume 26 by the museum staff, art researchers and scholars from other Lithuanian culture, art and academic institutions, and our museum colleagues from abroad.
The museum’s director general presents the institution’s main activities for 2024 in his introductory article, while they are expanded on in their publications by the authors. The chapters “Patron”, “Event” and“Artist” discuss the museum’s most important projects, reflecting the exhibitions that took place abroad. The chapter “Collections: acquisitions, research, restoration” familiarises readers with the art treasures acquired in 2024, expanding on the visual and applied art, design and folk art research that was conducted, and giving an overview of the works that underwent restoration. The most valuable projects that were realised in the museum’s exposition departments are discussed in the chapter “Open spaces: expositions, exhibitions, education”. The chapter “Virtual highways” is dedicated to the latest news on e-services and e-product creation. “Bibliography” is a register of all the museum’s publications released in the past year, along with those published by its staff, while the chapter “Chronicle and statistics” presents a detailed list of achievements in the museum’s activities.
Published annually, the museum’s Annals testify to the institution’s dynamic existence, openness to society, and active engagement in national and international cultural and public life events.
The Annals has been reviewed and recommended for publication by the Exhibitions, Research and Publishing Commission of the Lithuanian National Museum of Art.
