This catalogue presents the ceramic works of Chagall and Picasso, as well as woven works by tapestry master weaver Yvette Cauquil-Prince (1928–2005), based on Chagall’s, Picasso’s and Ernst’s sketches.
The catalogue reveals the colourful and multifaceted process of cooperation between these creators, the results of which encompass themes from the Bible, war and peace, Chagall’s native shtetl, the circus and the corrida. Illustrated with historic images of Cauquil-Prince’s tapestry creation process, the catalogue also features photographs of the Madoura ceramic workshop in Vallauris, France where Chagall and Picasso would meet. There are also more than 30 images of their ceramic and tapestry works. The glossy glazes and softness of the tapestry threads offer a completely new glimpse at the work of Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso and Max Ernst.
